Black Orchid

In the last October this year, I have an assignment went to  Bontang, East Borneo, Indonesia. Lukily  i am, at this location, they have Orchid garden, full of colection species and I found a lot of Black Orchid in here.

So in the midle of photo assigment, i spare a little time to made my personal project, made this

Black Orchid from Borneo know as Coelogyne Pandurata or it has a local name “Kersik Luai”. Not like other species  of back Orchid that totally black, this Kersik Luai  have a green color, but in the center area of the flowers there is lot of black spot. Love it, beautiful and elegant.

So in the middle of photo assigment, i spare a little time to made my personal project,  made a shoot of this beauty Kersei Luai.

I call it, a little souvenir from Borneo...

“Coelognye Pandurata found in Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo and the Philippines as a large sized, hot growing epiphyte found on large trees near rivers or terrestrial with well-spaced, strongly compressed, oblong or suborbicular, sulcate pseudobulb carrying 2, apical, plicate, elliptic-lanceolate, leaves with a stout petiole that blooms in late spring-summer out of the center of new leads with up to 15 flowers on a terminal, arched to pendant, 6 to 12" [15 to 30 cm] long, racemose inflorescence. The simulataneously opening flowers are highly fragrant of honey but are short lived. This orchid needs wire basket culture as it spreads out quite rapidly and sphagnum with wood chips as media works best and the best time to repot is when the new lead emerges.” (Wikipedia English)

Technical

Because of time and situation, I decided to used simple technic,  available light combine with one portable flash for black light, people call it stobies, how to do this, i have write it in previous article.

Tools Camera and lens, I used Nikon D7000 with kit lens Nikon 18 -105mm with Nikon SB 800 flash light.
